Happy Birthday Christian!

We started our celebration of Christian's 1st birthday at Spinatos (of course)!
Then we had cake!

He was very proud of himself for getting his hands in the icing while I stepped away to get the lighter.

He loved his cake. He put on quite a show while eating it. He ate the entire piece.
Christian is weighing in just under 25lbs. He is super active and smiley. He will push anything and everything that moves around the house (his favorite thing being a little car). He loves to be outside. He does not like to have things taken away from him. And he has become quite attached to his blanket.

2010 in Review

How is it most days seem to last forever but the years fly by? If I had to sum up our year with one word, it would be OVERWHELMING...

Christian (11.5months) joined our family on Jan. 13th. He was absolutely perfect. He ate well and slept a lot. And life was not as overwhelming as I thought it would be. Now, he is almost a year and he IS overwhelming me. He overwhelms me with his rolls of fat, his gorgeous smile, his "to die for" giggles, and his love for playing chase and peek-a-boo. He also overwhelms me with his love for me. A love that motivates him to find my leg, pull himself up and hold on until I have no choice but to pick him up. He can't seem to get enough of me!

Hannah (3.5 years) overwhelms me with her beauty and her singing. Hannah has started speaking more clearly this year, but still has many words only a parent can understand. We took quite a few art and movement classes together before she started preschool in the fall. She doesn't say much about school except that singing time is her favorite. She loves to play with her dolls and her mom. I find her sense of style to be overwhelming as well as her constant chatter. And since moving to a big girl bed about 10 months ago, I have been completely overwhelmed by getting up with her during the night.

Cameron (5.5 years) has always been and continues to be overwhelming! I think he is teaching Christian all he knows. Cameron overwhelms me with his spontaneous hugs and kisses. I find his desire for attention and many many fits during the day to be quite overwhelming. However, he is finally staying in his bed at night! Cameron started kindergarten this fall. The first week or so was good, but after a run in with the lunch room nazi, things quickly went downhill. Full day kindergarten has been overwhelming to him, although he seems to be adjusting. By 7pm, if not before, he is begging to go to bed. Cameron played baseball this fall and really enjoyed it. He can be very helpful and polite. He adores his baby brother. An adoration, that at times, can be overwhelming to me and Christian.

Emma is overwhelmed as a junior at Tempe Prep Academy. With school, athletics, and other extracurricular activities, she stays quite busy.

Lily graduated from Tempe Prep and finished her first semester at NAU. She was overwhelmed by her roommates, but she stuck it out and did great in all her classes.

Chuck is still working as an engineer for Honeywell and is overwhelmed as each and every perk of being an employee is taken away. (But we are thankful he has a job). He has also been overwhelmed with all the medical bills pouring in (Lily's ACL replacement, Christian's circumcision as well as a sharp increase in insurance premiums). He was able to race his bike quite a bit this year. He spent a lot of time training on a recumbent bike for the World Human Powered Vehicle Speed Challenge. But the bike was not race ready in time and he did not get to compete. However, he still holds the world record. Chuck was asked to take on more of a leadership position in our church, which he finds to be overwhelming, but he is doing a great job!

Rebekah is overwhelmed by motherhood! I am overwhelmed by how much I love these kids! I am also overwhelmed with all 3 kids needing attention at the same time! I'm overwhelmed with the constant fighting and fit throwing. And I'm overwhelmed with an endless list of chores. I spent most of the year getting back in shape (yes, that was overwhelming). I continue to run, practice yoga and teach group exercise.

Being parents can be overwhelming in so many ways. But most of all, we are overwhelmed by the love we have for our kids and for each other. And we are overwhelmed by the love our Savior has for us and the blessings we have in our lives.

Happy New Year!

Please just look at the camera and smile!

Everyone might not be looking at the camera, but they are all smiling!

Cameron and Christian adore each other.

As I've said before, H has a style all her own as you can see from the shoes.

Almost a good picture!

Gotta love it!

Not bad for a family photo with kids...
What else do you do when you are dressed up? Play in the dirt and eat some, of course!
