First Semester of the 2018/2019 School Year

The kids were extremely busy the first semester of this school year.  Hannah made the JV volleyball team and was awarded "Most Improved" at the end of the season.  She enjoyed playing volleyball  and made some good friends.  But it did require a lot of time which was a little overwhelming for her.  Cameron decided to try out for the soccer team.  He was also playing football (more on that later) and we weren't excited for him to be playing two sports at the same time but we didn't discourage him from trying out because we didn't think he'd make the team.  Well, he did.  We were all quite surprised, including Cameron.  He did get playing time and he played well (except for that one hand ball that cost them the game).  Most importantly, it kept him busy and Cameron loves to be busy.  But that meant it kept Chuck and me really busy as well.  Christian joined the Rubix Cube team at school and was able to compete in the tournament.  He was on the 2nd Fuller team.  The teams of six raced to see who could solve 25 Rubix Cubes the fastest.  If a kid could not solve the whole thing, they solved as much as they could and gave it to someone else to finish.  Thankfully Christian is still young enough he is not keeping us too busy.  In addition, both Cameron and Hannah are in the band, which had concerts. Hannah took dance as an elective, and they had a performance at the end of the semester.  The theme was Avengers, which is why Hannah is green with red hair. So between volleyball, soccer, football, band, dance and all our other extra-curricular activities, we had a couple very very busy months.  At times we thought we might not survive.

Scout update

Cameron was recently awarded his Star scout and Christian spent a day at a leader's house working on making fire, cooking, shooting, and tying knots.  He had so much fun.

Thanksgiving 2018

As for the past 18 years, we started Thanksgiving day with the Turkey Trot.  I ran the 10K with Cameron and Chuck ran the 5K with Hannah and Christian.  Unfortunately Cameron did not throw up this year but that meant he didn't push it as hard as he did last year.  Not only did he not want to throw up again, but he did not want to get DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness).  That prompted me to tell quite a few stories about DOMS to help keep his mind off the pain.  My favorite part of the race this year was when I was encouraging him to go get the old guy in front of us with the hunch back and he said, "Stop pressuring me Mom."  Cameron did do some training, running with me and working up to 4 miles over a week and a half.  Hannah and Christian humored me with one training run that was ~ a mile.  Cameron hasn't run with me since the race.  We had a very relaxing, quiet day the rest of the day.  It was just our family for dinner.  And it was a good dinner!
