Cameron turned 10 on the 2nd of May. The Saturday before his birthday, he went to a Diamond Back's game with his friends Carson and Curtis and his dad and brother. I checked him out of school for lunch the Friday before his birthday and he chose to go to Sweet Tomatoes. He went on the Father/Sons camp out with his dad and Christian the day before his birthday. They came home on his birthday. We had Sunday dinner with family, neighbors and his friend Marshall and his family. The menu he selected was green chili enchilada casserole and red velvet cake. Cameron hasn't changed much over the years, in fact, I can just about copy and paste my birthday post from last year with just a few minor changes. C still complains a lot about school, but the complaints lessened when he was put in Mrs. Johnson's class. His responsibility at home is taking out the recycling and WAS mowing the lawn. He does seem to need more reminding to take out the recycling this year than last. He does not enjoying mowing the lawn so much. In fact, the last time he was asked to mow, he threw such a fit that I fired him from mowing. And still when I ask the kids to help clean up, C's reaction would make you believe it's the end of the world. C loves to watch TV and play on the computer, but he also loves to shoot hoops and ride his bike. He loves anything Star Wars and wants to share all his Star Wars knowledge. He also likes to read and be read to. We have been reading the Series of Unfortunate Events together and he is still reading the Lord of the Rings with Chuck. But don't ask him to write a paragraph about what he reads. Again, it would be the end of the world! C has been taking guitar lessons. He bought his own guitar and I found a teacher who is in high school. And who is great with C. I pay him $10/half hour. C plays very well and catches on quickly. He never complains about going to lessons, but he doesn't like to practice. Recently Cameron decided he has out grown Lego City Legos, after having just bought a set mere months ago. And he has a plan to sell them. Currently he is making sure he has all the parts for each set and is packaging them up. He has acquired quite a few sets over the years. I think he plans to use the money to buy some type of gaming system. But I don't want to even discuss that. Cameron is very smart and clever. And it is fun to see him change and yet stay the same. At age 10 he is 4 ft 8 in and weighs 70 lbs. We wish him a Happy 11th Year!

End of the 2014/15 School Year
Cameron had a terrible school year (his words). We did have him tested for gifted and although he did not score high enough to be considered "gifted", he did score high enough to be allowed in the gifted math as an "exceptional" student. Being able to leave the classroom for 1.5 hours a day was the only good part of his school year. And that didn't even start until the second semester. Cameron started out in Mrs. Morgan's class. But at the semester break, with continued unhappiness, we asked if we could have him moved to another teacher's classroom. He was moved to Mrs. Johnson's class. He seemed to enjoy it more there than in his previous class. Cameron has a hard time with his classmates mis-behaving ways. And they were better behaved in Mrs. Johnson's classroom. Cameron's favorite classes were gifted math and P.E. He hated his music teacher and homework. And he did not care for the library teacher or taking the AZ merit test. Although Cameron had a "terrible" school year, he did participate in the First Lego League, played intramural Capture the Flag, and was cast as Rooster in the school's performance of Annie. His favorite memories were the class auction and the last day. Cameron will miss his teacher, Mrs. Johnson, who he said was nice, funny, helpful and had good control of the classroom. All the kids will be going to a different school next year and Cameron said he will not miss anything about Norte. But personally, I think he had a lot of opportunities at Norte over the years, such as Lego League, intramural sports, student council, drama club, etc. I am interested to see if the school is the problem or the attitude of the student.
Hannah had a great school year! She loved her teacher, Mr. Moffett. She loved him because he was funny, nice and more exciting than girl teachers. Her favorite classes were PE, music, library and art (all the specials). In the classroom, she loved to write and read. She also loved the special celebrations that were held for kids who displayed positive behavior. But she was disappointed she didn't learn times (multiplication). Her favorite memories were attending the sock hop and fall picnic. Her best friend was Audrey, but unfortunately she moved toward the end of the school year. She also enjoyed spending time with Ashlyn, Secret and Kailee. The thing she will miss most about 2nd grade is her teacher.
Christian has graduated from Happy Apple Preschool. It is the end of an era. All 3 kids have gone to Happy Apple for 2 years each. No more tuition checks for us! Christian loved Happy Apple. Never once did he put up a fuss about going. According to Christian, Happy Apple was fun and he had a lot of friends. His favorite part of the day was playing with cars and learning his ABC's. He also loved to taking show and tell to school and bringing home the adventure animal. There is nothing he didn't like about Happy Apple. Well, maybe he didn't like writing his name so much. Christian brought home a green apple (meaning good behavior) everyday for two years with the exception of one time when he brought home a yellow apple. When I picked him up, he said,"Mom, don't get mad when you look in my folder. Yellow is the new green." Yellow was not the new green. He had gotten a yellow apple for punching a girl. But in his defenses, she had pushed him first. I know Christian is super prepared for Kindergarten and will be loved by his teachers and classmates.

"Dad wants you to still marry him!"
It was the Saturday before Easter and after Chuck's afternoon ride (I always run and teach in the morning so Chuck has to ride in the afternoon and it always has to be 3 hours) he had planned to take the kids out on a bike ride. While he was doing that, I was going to do some Easter shopping. He hooked up the tandem trail-a-bike to the tandem with Hannah and Christian on the tandem trail-a-bike and Cameron on a single. (That did leave an empty seat and I did have the thought that I should have gone with them.) They went their way and I went mine. When I got home a couple hours later, Chuck and the kids were also getting home. I saw Christian's face first and said, "What did you do to your face?" Hannah says, "Dad wants you to still marry him." I said, "I am already married to him." and she says, "He doesn't want you to break up with him." Apparently, Chuck did not get the hitch to the trail-a-bike engaged and they made it just a little way down the street before the trail-a-bike was no longer attached to Chuck. Christian took the worst hit. Hannah walked away with a scrapped knee. They still went out for their ride and had a great time. I'm sure it was helpful that I was not home and that they were meeting up with friends. Christian was so tough. He rarely complained about his road rash and didn't blame his dad for it. Chuck told him he'd take him out for ice cream and that would make him feel a little better (both Chuck and Christian). And after they got the ice cream, Christian said, "You were wrong dad. This ice cream doesn't make me feel a little better. It makes me feel a lot better." I am sure Chuck will be double and triple checking to make sure the trailer hitch is engaged next time.
