Remember when Halloween used to be a day?! I think each kid went to 4 or so parties. But the silver lining with that is you get your monies worth out of the costumes. And a shout out to Lily who made Cameron's costume, the Pink Panther. Hannah dressed up as Hermoine from Harry Potter, and Christian was a vampire.

Pop Warner - Chandler Youth Football
The Storm
Cameron, for years and years, begged for me to let him play tackle football. But I was adamant that I was not going to let him play tackle. Ever. But then I decided he could play in high school if he still really wanted to, hoping he would not or that he would hate it after a day of practice. But a scout leader of Cameron's told me he would get slaughtered if he waited until high school to play because all the other kids would have been playing tackle for years. Good point. So, after talking to Chuck we decided, what could it hurt? But again, I was hoping he'd hate it. I started asking around and searching for football leagues in the valley. There were only two options that I found, so we settled on Pop Warner. Pop Warner is the gold standard right? Wrong! What a disappointment. The Pop Warner organization was not so organized to say the least. And we didn't know we would be driving 15-20 minutes to practice and upwards of an hour to some games. I can't really speak to the coaching, but they seemed good. And there were good team "managers" who tried to keep things organized to the best of their ability. And Cameron LOVED practicing and playing. It was what got him through the day. But he did not love the losing. Oh and did they lose. EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. And it was never even close. They did score a couple touchdowns during the season but it wasn't until one of the last games of the season that they got their first first down. The closest game was the playoff game when they actually played a team more evenly matched to them. During the regular season, there was absolutely no competition. And we aren't really sure why/how it worked out like that. BOO Pop Warner. But the most important things are that Cameron enjoyed it and he did not get hurt. He did get a couple bruises and scratches but nothing major. I was actually disappointed that he wouldn't come home sore and exhausted. The hardest part of practice was probably taking off the shoulder pads. I am sure we will be seeing more tackle football in Cameron's future but to Pop Warner, all I can say is good riddance and I hope to never see you again!
Dance 101
I don't want to leave Hannah out although her sport is year round. She is dancing again at Dance 101 this year. She is taking a Ballet/Contemporary class and is loving it!
Mesa Aquatic Club
Christian excelled so much at swimming during the summer, we decided to sign him up with Mesa Aquatic Club (MAC) for their fall league. Originally practices were going to be held at a pool that is really close to us, but they did not have enough kids sign up (which we didn't find out until after we had committed) so we ended up driving him further than we would have liked, but we were able to carpool with two other kids. He had practice 3 times a week for an hour and had 3 meets during the season; two of them were very casual and one was the real deal! Swim meets can be a little overwhelming, so I was surprised at how well Christian did with the them. He swam his best and never got concerned with what place he got. In the more competitive meet, he swam the 50 free, 50 butterfly and 100 IM. Those are the longest races he had ever done. It is so cool to see him go from struggling to swim 25 meters to doing a 100 IM! However, I do have to say, just like Pop Warner, we were disappointed in MAC. Communication was poor and we are not really sure how much Christian improved. His times were not much, if any, faster when compared with his fastest swim times of the summer. He definitely improved his cardiovascular endurance but some of his strokes looked a little worse at the end of the fall league than in the beginning. But the important thing is that he had fun.
