Happy 8th Birthday Christian

Eight is Great!

Christian turned 8 on Saturday the 13th of January.  He had such an exciting day!  He was baptized in the morning by his dad and had a party with many of his friends at the park in the afternoon. They played soccer, baseball, and basketball.  They ate red velvet cake.  After seeing Cameron's video from when he went to iFly (indoor skydiving), he kept talking about wanting to go there, so he got gift cards to go.  He also got Legos, a soccer ball, gifts cards, Cars 3 cars and money.

Christian is 4ft 1in and 56 lbs. As he gets older, he is becoming more adventurous and independent.  He jumps right in even though he might be nervous or scared such as swim team.  He has his own opinions which can be quite strong and lead to major battles.  He loves to play cars and Legos.  He loves to be outside throwing a ball, having Nerf gun wars, or playing Cornhole.  He also loves to watch TV and play on his kindle.   He likes to be read to and is an excellent reader and doesn't mind reading out loud.  He has a knack for math.  And he just recently started piano lessons.  He loves it and even practices without being asked.  I love most when Christian skips from one place to another.  He is such a joy to having around and I know he is going to grow up to be GREAT!

Highlights of 2017!

In January Christian turned 7!  He is such a fun kid to have around.  He is smart, clever, determined, and cute to name a few.  I love most when Christian skips from one place to another.

In February the kids completed a Spartan Race.  They worked hard and had so much fun!

In March we took a trip to Kartchner Caverns, staying in a cute little cabin, touring the big room and going for a hike.

In April our lives revolved around Little League Baseball.

May brought many highlights.  Cameron turned 12.  Cameron is smart, whitty, and a hard worker (when it is what he wants to be working for).  I love when Cameron is passionate about something. Hannah turned 10. Hannah is  smart, beautiful and super talented.   I love that she loves to be upside down much of the time.   I, Rebekah turned 40.   I am still teaching group exercise most days of the week, and usually more than one class.  And I still love to run.  I celebrated turning 40 by running the Whiskey Row half marathon the weekend before. Chuck took the day of my birthday off and we ran, went to lunch and dinner and he arranged for me to spend the afternoon at the spa.  Chuck turned 53.  Chuck is smart, sexy, and such a hard worker.  If he is not working hard at Honeywell or at the house, he is working hard while riding his bike.

In June Hannah had her end of the year Dance Recital.  And all the kids swam with the Dobson Dolphins Swim Team.  It was Christian's first year and he was voted most improved.

In July Chuck took the Boy Scouts on a Super Adventure in the Durango, CO area, nearly killing most of them.  Cameron also went along.  Cameron went to Camp Geronimo for a week, where it rained every afternoon, limiting what they could do.  And Chuck, the kids and the Hatches went on the Summer Backpacking Trip in Wyoming.

In August school started!  Cameron started 7th grade, Hannah 5th and Christian 2nd. And Cameron's dream of playing tackle football became a reality.

In September Christian continued swim team with the Mesa Aquatic Club and Chuck and I celebrated 15 years of marital bliss!

In October we enjoyed trick-or-treating dressed like Hermioni, the Pink Panther and a vampire.

In November we enjoyed visits from Charity and Grandma Kitty and Papa.  We celebrated Lily's 26th Birthday.  Cameron made the basketball team.  And Cameron ran his first 10K while Hannah and Christian ran their first 5K.

In December we celebrated the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ and spent a few days in Farmington, NM with our cousins!

We ended the year celebrating New Year's Eve with our good friends the Hamblins.  Brett and Kristin lived in the Lakeshore Ward when we we moved in.  They had a baby boy, Carson, 2 months younger than Cameron.  Those boys quickly became best friends.  Our baby girls were born only a couple months apart two years later.  Hannah and Natalie became become best friends instantly.  A couple years later brought Christian into our family and Madelyn into theirs.  The Hamblins moved from our ward, but only a few miles away.  We stayed very close.  They added Samantha and Ryan to their family while we felt that three was enough.  We have had countless play dates together.  There was never a break from school that we weren't playing with the Hamblins.  There was never an important event, birthdays, baptisms,  etc that the Hamblins weren't at.  We went to parades together, had Super Bowl parties and decorated gingerbread houses.  When Chuck was writing a will a couple years ago, we considered asking Brett and Kristin to raise our kids it something were to happen to us.  That is how much we love and respect this family.  Kristin was diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 2016.  She had surgeries, went through chemotherapy and radiation, but fought and beat the cancer.  We would have never guessed that that New's Years Eve would be the last time we were together as complete families.  Kristin died from a blood clot not too long after that New Year's Eve party.  We are heartbroken but will forever be grateful for her friendship, example, service and her desire to cultivate and foster relationships between our kids and families.  Our lives were changed because of her and will never be the same without her.

Cousins!

My kids love their Farmington cousins, Darien, Annie, Ellie, Sarah and Abigail.  So after Christmas we paid them a visit.  We went to Pagosa Springs for lunch and a soak in the hot springs.  We went bowling.  We pulled mints.  And the kids just played, played and played.

Christmas 2017

Christmas Eve day was on Sunday, so of course we went to church. And before church we took photos, but Chuck was already at choir practice, so he didn't get in on the action.  That evening we went to our neighborhood potluck and watched Elf.

An early Christmas present for Chuck that his mom was so excited about but caused her a lot of grief.

As you can see, Legos are an important part of our lives.

And Chuck got a hippopotamus for Christmas.
