Maui
Finally it was Christian's turn to get to go to Maui with mom and finally we were able to find the time!
We flew to Maui on Tuesday, getting there around 5pm. Jennifer picked us up at the airport and drove us to Susan's house in Kihei. We took a walk on Keawakapu beach, which turned out to be a little more than a walk. Then we had dinner before heading to bed.
On Wednesday we drove with Jen to Ho'okipa Beach to see the sea turtles, visited the Iao needle (Dean joined us at this point), enjoyed shave ice and played at the beach.
On Thursday we relaxed in the hammock until it was time to go to the beach. We spent most of the day at the beach boogie boarding and playing in the waves. Christian got slammed by the waves many times, but each time he got right back up and tried again. I invented a game where we took a small ball and threw it into the waves and whoever got to the ball first as it was riding the wave in got a point. We played and played and played!
On Friday we went to a fire demonstration in Kahului with Susan and Dean, went to lunch and the Maui Tropical Plantation with Jen and Dean, spent time at the beach and went to bed early.
On Saturday we took a snorkel cruise on the Maui Magic to Turtle Town and Molokini Crater. We had lots of clouds and some rain, but did get to see dolphins and a sea turtle. We shopped in Wailea, had shave ice, walked around the Grand Wailea and boogie boarded at sunset. We had seen a couple guys out boogie boarding each day we'd gone to the beach. So, Christian hung out with them and got some good coaching.
On Sunday we shopped in Lahaina, had lunch at Kool Cat's with Susan and Dean, played at a park up county with Jen and Dean, and had some beach time. Christian boogie boarded with his new friends. He had to start wearing a shirt because his belly was getting scrapped up.
On Monday we started the hike to Twin Falls but turned back because we weren't ready for the water crossings, rode the train at the Maui Tropical Plantation because they were sold out when we went before, and we boogie boarded some more. We took showers, had dinner and headed to the airport. Christian slept a little on the plane, but not as much as I thought he would. But the next day he took a good nap and was not unbearable.
We had a great time in Maui and I have loved spending one on one time with my kids and sharing that experience with them. I am so grateful for the opportunity I have had to take all 3 kids. I hope they will always remember the trip.
California - Redondo Beach and Sequoia National Park
Chuck took Cameron and Hannah on their own adventure. They spent two night and day in a hotel near the beach. They rode bikes, played in the water, and played sand volleyball. Then they drove to Sequoia where they camped for 4 nights and 5 days. They saw the biggest tree in the world, General Sherman, rode bikes, played in the woods, hiked, and became Jr. Rangers. Cameron planned the menu and prepared the food to get his cooking merit badge. The highlight of the cooking was the world's best back-country pizzookie ever. The highlight of the trip was that Cameron and Hannah actually got along.
