Some Journaling
Let's see...I have been telling myself for days that tonight is the night I blog. And tonight IS the night. However, Chuck is out of town, which means I need to do his chores:get the kitchen cleaned up, lunches made, backpacks packed etc. as well as my own which is really only preparing for classes tomorrow. But since I have been on my own most of the day yesterday as well as today, I don't really want to do anything. He is going to be gone until Wed. Weekends are the hardest, so at least that is past, but as I am always overwhelmed by my kids, I am especially overwhelmed when I have no help. But anyway, that is beside the point of this post. I have been wanting to and needing to do some journaling while things are still fresh in my head...
Cameron - Cameron is doing really well in school. He seems to enjoy his teacher and his classmates. Although, he really really hates doing his homework. He is reading so well! Right now, he is reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid by himself. I think this series is awful, but I guess it's good that he is reading. However, he'd better not start acting like that little brat in the book! Together we have been reading the Percy Jackson series. We are on book four and they are actually good reads! Cameron ran for student representative but did not win. He didn't talk much about it, but I know he was very disappointed and I was disappointed with him. He totally should have won! He is really enjoying cub scouts and has earned his Bobcat. He still loves for me to play with him, but he is spending more time entertaining himself; mostly with legos. And he loves to watch TV. I am so anxious for cooler weather, so we aren't inside all the time with the TV staring at us. C recently asked when he could have a friend over. I said anytime he wanted. And he said he knew who he wanted to have over. He asked to have over a little boy who is 11 and has severe spina bifida. He is in a wheel chair and although he can communicate very well, sounds sort of like a robot. He came over yesterday. This little boy is an angel. I could literally feel the peace that was in our home while he was over. The kids did not fight at all (with the exception of a time or two when H really wanted to push him wear he needed to go). I would say that Cameron did not treat this little boy differently, but he did. He was so patient, sweet and loving. He asked what his friend wanted to do, rather than demand to do what he wanted to. He asked if he needed help and if help was asked for, he did not hesitate to do so. As they played catch, he did not get frustrated or angry when the ball was not caught or thrown where it could be caught. When they asked to watch TV, C pushed him where he could get a good view of the TV. Because he was in front of the couch, C pulled up the piano bench so he could sit next to him. (Christian pulled up his stoller so he could be like this little boy). As a parent, you worry about and wonder how your children will treat those who are different or who might have handicaps. Having this little angel in our home brought out the angel in my little boy!
Hannah is also doing really well in school. She never complains about going and loves doing her homework. She loves to write and is always asking me if the letters she has written down spell something. As you can tell from the above picture, she has a style all her own. However, most days I manage to get her to wear matching clothes. She has joined Girl Scouts and is in a Daisy Troop with Natalie. She is my frequent night visitor and often doesn't visit me, but screams for me. Most of the time she tells me she had a bad dream. Once her bad dream was that her pajamas changed colors. Once it was her dad hit her over the head with a chair. Once she was yelling bloody murder and when I went to see what was wrong she told me her head had fallen off the pillow. Needless to say, I am getting very tired of getting up during the night, but I am still managing to be calm while doing it. H is receiving therapy for her speech at school and is making great progress. She is starting to speak much more clearly. She loves to play with babies and watch TV right along with Cameron. Every once in a while she will have quite a huge meltdown for no apparent reason, but other than that, she is a pretty happy child.
Christian is turning into such a little boy! He is talking so much and often you can hear him copying his brother and sister. We have a lot of time together with C and H in school. We spend that time: going to story time, taking an art class, going to the zoo, having friends over, etc. I am really enjoying the time I have with him. However, sometimes he does not want to go home and will throw quite the fit about that. He still needs a nap, but often puts up a fuss about taking one. It's something I can't force, but if he doesn't take a nap, he will often fall asleep on the way home from school or even on the couch at 5pm. He is a very easy going child and is a joy to have around. He plays well by himself but also loves to watch TV. He has to get his Caillou fix everyday. But if the TV is on, he will watch it. It doesn't matter if the show is beyond his understanding.
