Just some things for me to remember...

Christian is gorgeous! My whole pregnancy I wondered if we were crazy for doing this again. But as soon as we had Christian, I knew he belonged in our family! I love the little sounds he makes, especially when he is crying and he snorts. And I love the way he wrinkles his brow. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get a picture of it. And as I hold him, knowing this stage ends so quick, I think maybe I could do this again...(Chuck says NO though)

I am so in love with Chuck! I adore him. And since I'm privledged by being the one to nurse a beautiful baby at night, rather than being annoyed when I get back into bed and Chuck is sound asleep, cozy and snoring, I just cuddle up with him in amazement that he is mine...
okay, so this is not the best picture of Chuck

Cameron actually played by himself a little today and a little with Hannah...but for the most part, he still fusses and whines at me all day to play with him.

Hannah is making me nuts! She won't do anything I ask. She drags things out all day long: toys, clothes etc. She is pretending to be a baby all the time and wants to be carried all the time. She is changing her clothes multiple times a day and won't wear what I ask her to. And a lot of the time prefers to be naked. But on a positive note, she is potty trained! She took off her diaper last week, so my mom put her in underwear. We have had a few accidents, but she is doing great!

she may be frustrating, but she is adorable!

I love that ponytail!

I am doing good. I feel good and although I still lose my patience with my kids, I don't feel like it's any worse now that I have three. I ran on several times last week (just a few miles) and felt good. I was a little sore but it was so nice to run again! I taught step and cycling Monday and felt great and I'm not even sore! My goals for this week are to get some more workouts in and start losing weight!

One week old

Well, we have survived the first week. Actually, the week as been pretty easy. My mom and dad have been here the whole week and have been very helpful, especially with C and H. Christian is a great sleeper and nurser. He had a well baby check up on Tues. and has actually put on weight. We returned to the pediatrician on Wed. for his circumcision, but once the Dr. started, she had to stop because she realized that he has hypospadias, a misplacement of the urethra. It is fairly common, we are told, and easily fixed. But the urologist needs the foreskin to fix it and that is why the circumcision was not done all the way. But the way it was left is pretty scary looking. He has an appt. in several weeks with the urologist, but it's not likely anything will be done until he is a bit older. I'm feeling good except for the soreness that goes along with nursing. I've walked several times, taught my yoga class today and worked out a bit afterwards. One night, when I was walking a lady said to me, "That's a good way to get the baby to come out." I replied with a "the baby's already out." Instead of something like, "You idiot, do you know what a women looks like at 9 months pregnant? And even if I were pregnant, I wouldn't want him to come out this early!" C and H are great with Christian! They want to hold him all the time. I put him down for a nap today and C rocked the cradle and sang Rock-a-Bye-Baby to him. And H always thinks he needs his pacifier, so she brings it to him.

Welcome Christian Charles!

Christian Charles Royalty: born 1/13/10 at 7am; 8lbs 6 oz

I wouldn't normally post a picture like this, but I thought it was funny becasue Chuck told me how much better I looked after this delivery opposed to the other two. I hate to know what I looked like after the other ones.

Big Brother C

Big Sister H

The much awaited birth of Christian has come and gone (thank goodness!). I enjoy being pregnant, as I've mentioned before. And all of my children have come "late". It doesn't bother me. It "bothers" a lot of OB's, which is one reason I decided to use a mid-wife for children following Cameron. However, despite enjoying pregnancy and knowing that life was just going to be that much harder once the baby was born, I was getting anxious to have this baby, mostly because of the comments everyone feels the needs to make (I'd already stopped going to church because of them).
Labor and Delivery:
Because I was 41 weeks, I had to have a non-stress test and ultrasound on Monday. Things looked good there. I knew once I went through the inconvenience and frustration of doing that, the baby would come. I had been having contractions for about a week, but nothing regular or strong. Monday night I woke up around 3am with some pretty good contractions, but they went away fairly quickly and by the time Chuck left for work, they were back to irregular and weak. So, we went about our day. I took the kids to story time, play with clay class and to lunch. By this time the contractions started to get stronger and more regular and my water broke around 1pm or so. I didn't have Chuck come home, but by the time he got home and we had dinner, the contractions were getting strong enough I was having to focus through them, but they were pretty far apart. Knowing I'd have to get to the hospital sooner rather than later (since my water broke and I was GBS+), Charity come over to stay with the kids. I wanted to stay at home for a while, but I also didn't want to get to the hospital too late to not get two doses of anti-biotics. So, we left about 10pm. In triage, they confirmed my water had broken and I was dilated to a 4-5. As I was being monitored, the contractions were getting stronger and I was annoyed they were still making me lay there on my left side longer than 30 minutes. We were moved to labor and delivery and my IV was started. My mid-wife was not on call, but the one who was, was very supportive of my birth plan. I did not want to be checked and was told that I'd know things were getting close as I felt more pressure, contractions were stonger etc. At this point, I was still in control of my breathing and felt like I could relax. But I was feeling more pressure, so I decided to be checked. That was at 5am, and I was only dilated to a 6-7. This was not good news to me! I felt like I was handling things well, but I was so upset that I had dilated so little in 6+ hours. At that point, I lost it! I was so upset. The mid-wife was trying to be encouraging saying things like it's not a linear progression, one contraction could go a long way etc. We tried laying on my side to help the baby move down, but by this point, I was too uncomfortable to be on my side. (I had been laboring mostly in a chair. I felt my contractions in my legs/hip creases. So, I found it helped to lean back a little with my feet on the floor and have Chuck press down on my legs.) So, I moved back to the chair, but my contractions were so bad and close together that I couldn't relax, I couldn't control my breathing etc. At some point, my mid-wife, who wanted to be there for the delivery, came in. I had a really bad contraction followed immediately by another one, at which point, I said (probably more of a yell), "I don't know what is happening, but something has got to come out!" So, I scurried over to the bed, Anita hurried to put on her gloves and gown and there was his head. I pushed several times and screamed a lot (so much for a peaceful entry into the world) and Christian was born.
Natural Labor:
I have wanted to do a natural labor with all my children. With Cameron, my water broke and I didn't go into labor, so I had pitocin, still didn't dilate, wanted to kill myself, so I had the epidural. With H, my water broke, I went into labor, but eventually just gave up and had the epidural. So, knowing this was likely my last baby, I made up my mind I was going to do it (of course knowing you have to keep an open mind). Intellectually, natural child birth makes total sense to me. And I had talked to many people who have had natural births and loved it. But me...I would not do it again. I'm really glad I did, because I would have really been disappointed in myself had I not, but my expectations were not met. I was NOT disappointed in how painful it was, but one thing that turned me onto a natural labor was the thought of being able to feel more in control. Which I did not. I felt like although, I could feel what was going on and tell my body how to react to it, my body didn't react to it they way I asked it to. I was also disappointed in the way I felt immediately after Christian was born. I had expectations that after he was born, the pain would be gone and I'd have this huge "high". I had felt such a high when my other babies were place on my chest, but this time I did not. I was still in so much pain, had to deliver the placenta, get stitched etc. I also had expectations that I would feel so much better the day and days following his birth. I felt horrible that day and although better the next, still not good. I feel like that was the most traumatic thing that has ever happened to me.
A note on Chuck:
Chuck was great during labor. He was pretty quiet. I would get an occasional "you're doing great" or "you can do this". I think he was mostly afraid of saying the wrong thing. I never did ask for the drugs though, and since his job was to keep me from getting them, I made it pretty easy for him. He would sneak food while I was in the bathroom, even though I told him it was fine if he ate. And although he denies it, he would dose off between contractions. He didn't say anything until today, but he said during my last big contraction with his hands on my legs, he felt my uterus go from basketball to football. That must have been when I yelled, "something has got to come out."
Life At home:
I've felt pretty good today, other than the typical soreness and pain that goes along with nursing. Christian is a great nurser and is even nursing well off the right side, which C and H did not like. C and H are great with Christian. They hug him and kiss him, want to hold him, give him stuffed animals etc. He did not want to be put down to sleep Wed or Thurs night, so we are hoping for better tonight.

Going for a bike ride

Between vacation, forced time off and baby not coming, Chuck has had a lot of time to spend with C and H. And some of that time has been spent riding bikes (believe it or not). Chuck hooked up the ally cat (trail-a-bike) to his bike and the trailer to the ally cat. C loves the ally cat! We were both quite surprised. We thought he'd be a little too scared on it.

H has finally learned to ride her tricycle. She made it all the way around the block which is about 1/2 mile. It's a good thing we make her wear a helmet because she has had a few crashes already. But she always gets back on.

Notice C likes to wear the band to keep your pant leg from getting caught in the chain on his arm.

No, I have not popped

Well, whether it was the 4th or the 6th, I am officially past my "due" date (aka guess date). So, I guess this baby isn't ready yet. Which is fine by me. I mean, I really don't want to put on any more weight or have a huge baby. I want to be able to run, sleep on my stomach and stand on my head. But life is just going to be that much harder once the baby is here...nursing, getting up at night, etc. etc. Chuck has had the last two weeks off, so of course it would be too convenient for the baby to come during that time. (However, he has been quite productive!) But it would be nice to at least have a couple days before he goes back to work, so I drank castor oil today. Yeah, didn't do a thing. Really, not a thing. Not even what is suppose to do. I cleaned house again today and did laundry. I shaved my legs and my toenails are painted. If we haven't had this baby by tomorrow, I guess I'll resort to cleaning the trashcans.

Urban Adventure

Thanks to the good ole economy and those taking advantage of it, Chuck has forced time off this week with no pay. C has been asking to ride a city bus for some time now (and a subway too, but we don't have one of those) so Chuck took him and H to lunch at Blimpies in Phx via the bus to the light rail and on to another bus. The whole adventure took about 5 hours. I was out for a walk (which did not induce labor BTW) and they left before I got back, so I did not have a chance to tell Chuck to take some pictures. So sorry, all I have is the story.

Still Waiting...

So, obviously we have not had this baby. And now, I'm even more ready (which will probably just slow things down). I've made a trip to Wal-mart to stock up on necessities like toilet paper, laundry soap etc., we even bought some diapers and I've cleaned the house again. Technically, I haven't even hit my "due" date, but I had such hope and faith this baby would come before the end of the year. But no such luck/blessing. So, now we will just wait...
