Covid-19 - Week 1

On Thursday the 12th of March, we started hearing more talk about Covid-19, a virus that was infecting many and leading to a number of deaths.  In effort to mitigate the spread of the virus, we were told to practice "social distancing".  Everything was being cancelled or closed; school, sports, church, restaurants and more.  Toilet paper was being hoarded and grocery store shelves were being emptied of canned foods, dried foods, meat, eggs, milk and cheese.  We did not meet for church that Sunday and were told school would not resume until March 30th.  On the 13th, Chuck was told to go home and stay home for the next week because he (3 weeks prior) had been in Spain at a plant where an employee had tested positive for the virus. The Y shut down on Wednesday the 18th as did EoS and I received an email laying me off that evening from the Y.  By this time, Chuck was told to work from home until further notice.  His recent merit increase was taken away and he was told he would be furloughed for two weeks.  Then the schools informed us they would not resume until the 13th of April.

Ellie was on her Spring Break and since Hannah didn't have school, she drove here with Camera to spend the week.  After a couple days of being mostly inside or having to do things like pull weeds, the kids needed to get out.  I told them everything was closed but they did some searching and found out Golf Land was open.  So, we went miniature golfing. Chuck seized the opportunity to take the boys camping.  They took the Jeep because I wanted the van to drive Ellie to Holbrook to meet up with Jonathan and get her back home.  I don't think they could have gotten anything else into that Jeep!  But after living with us for 8+ years, the Jeep finally got some four-wheeling action.

Spring Break 2020

We started our Spring Break with a Spring training game at Diablo Stadium to see the LA Angels play the Cleveland Indians.  We had never been to a Spring training game.  It was expensive and we sat on the lawn so we couldn't see very well.  But I feel like you have to go to a Spring training game if you live in AZ.

A rare occasion when the kids shared something without fighting.

On Tuesday we drove to Green Valley and stayed at a National Forest Cabin in Madera Canyon.  We passed thru Tucson and ate at our favorite restaurant, Beyond Bread.  We hiked, played games and read.  On Wednesday, after packing up, we drove to the Titan II Missile Museum and toured the silo and got to see a nuclear missile.  We then drove into Tucson and Chuck, Cameron and Hannah went to the Tucson Temple.  We stopped for dinner at Beyond Bread.

On Friday while Christian played at a friend's house, I took Hannah and Cameron to the Phoenix Temple (which is in Glendale).  We also got emails from the schools saying they would remain closed an additional two weeks to help mitigate the spread of Covid-19.  It was that Friday that the world started to panic and shut down. I am so glad we were able to do some fun things on our Spring Break and didn't have to spend it in "lockdown."

2 Mile Obstacle Course - Go Christian!

Happy 10th Birthday Christian!

Christian turned 10 on Monday the 13th of January.  He spent the weekend before his birthday in Cincinnati with Cameron and Chuck.  It was a trip to visit Grandma Kitty and Papa but he also spent the weekend celebrating his birthday.  We had dinner when they got back on Monday.  Christian requested BLTs (without the L or the T) and blueberries.  A couple weeks later we took two of his best friends, Dominic and Trex, to Main Event to bowl and play laser tag.

As Christian gets older and bigger, he also gets more handsome, smarter and more talented.   He loves math and has quite the extensive vocabulary for a 10 year old.  He reads a little on his own, but prefers to be read to.  His teachers speak very highly of him.  He loves to watch TV and play games on the computer.  But he will still get caught up in imaginary play with Legos or cars.  He is excelling on the piano and even practices without complaining.  He loves sports and being outside playing with friends.  But it usually doesn't end well or last long when he plays outside with his brother or sister.  He doesn't always wake up in the best mood, but almost never gives us a hard time about going to bed.  Like all kids, he prefers to get his way and won't hesitate to throw a fit when he doesn't.  But overall Christian is a easy going, helpful kid and we love him!  At 10 he is 4 feet 6 inches and 70 pounds.
