Happy 14th Birthday Cameron
Cameron's birthday was on a Thursday this year, so as in years past, he played hooky. He watched a movie while I taught and then we went to lunch at Cane's. He didn't want to go shopping and we didn't have time to do much else, so he spent the afternoon playing video games. He had the 8th grade awards ceremony that evening where he was recognized for maintaining above a 3.75 GPA all 3 years of middle school (actually it was above a 4.0) and awarded the outstanding science student award. We had lasagna for dinner and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Several weeks later Chuck took him, Christian and Carson to an Arizona Rattlers game. They had dinner, also at Cane's.
On Cameron's wish list was $300 catchers gear. which he did not get. But the morning of his birthday Christian pulled me into his room and said he wanted to get Cameron something. He asked if I would buy the catchers gear and say it was from him. I said no. That did not make him happy. I suggested he buy Cameron Otter Pops. He did not like that suggestion. But ultimately it was what he settled on. As I was in the kitchen fixing lunches with knife in hand, I had an idea. Still holding the knife I told Christian I had another idea and to come with me in the other room. As we were walking down the hall, he said, "Are you taking me to the other room to kill me?" Hannah gave Cameron a succulent. Cameron named him Stewie and is taking very good care of him. He has wanted a succulent ever since Hannah got one at Christmas time.
Other than getting taller, measuring 5 ft 5 (he is taller than I am) and gaining a little weight, weighing 125 lbs, Cameron hasn't changed much over the last year. He loves to watch TV, play video games (he is now playing the Xbox more than the PS), go to practice and fiddle with things. He still hates school, hates to read, and hates to do chores. He is a smart, talented boy with a mature sense of humor. One day I know he will appreciate what school has done for him and be a very successful professional who works hard.
