Although the days seemed to last forever, the summer went by surprisingly fast.
Cameron:
Just before the end of school, Cameron applied for a job at Jamba Juice. I thought he would be a shoe in. But he did not get the job. Was he given a rejection call or email? No. I encouraged him to call but the manager was never there when he did. Finally I went to their website and we found a place to leave a comment. After that, he received an email saying he did not get the job. We had gone to a City of Tempe job fair to look for opportunities but C was not old enough for many of the available positions and he had no desire to check into lifeguarding. The City of Tempe has a Junior Lifeguard program that kids can start when they are 12 and when they turn 15 they are essentially guaranteed a job. I got that information so Hannah could do that. Cameron continued to look for a job. He had football practice all summer in the afternoon, so he looked for a job he could work in the mornings. He applied at Wildflower, Panera and Salad and Go. He was rejected by all. After that, the lifeguarding didn't sound too bad. But he had waited too long and the door was closed. Our neighbor asked him to take care of his lawn and pool which did give him something to do where he could make a little money, but it was only once a week for a couple of hours. So he spent a lot of time on the couch playing video games and watching TV. He did take a summer school class which took some time out of the day but it was online and could be done on the couch. He, Christian and Chuck spent a week backpacking (that will get its own post) and he did get to go to football camp.
Hannah:
Hannah was very busy this summer. She worked about 20 hours a week as a Jr Lifeguard, babysat for Raygan and Rylee two days a week for many weeks, picked up the neighbor's dogs' poop, painted, and took an online summer school class. She did not want to go backpacking again this summer but she did participate in the Young Women's Summer Experience where she went tubing at the lake, went rock climbing, took a photography class and much more. On her last day of the Summer Experience she sprained her ankle. It was bruised, swollen and hard to walk on. She happened to have a well check the following Monday and the doctor recommended she get an X-ray. It was not broken but did take some time to regain her mobility and strength. The YM Summer Experience was the same week as the backpacking trip, so we got to spend some quality time together. She joined the swim team at the Tempe Y and swam a couple nights a week with swim meets on Saturdays. Ellie came to visit for a few days and they did a lot of shopping. The big plan was to go to SunSplash but it rained the whole time Ellie was here. It was good for the Valley but not good for going to a water park.
| After hurting her ankle, she wanted to go to the store with me. I was worried about her walking but we found this perfect little cart! |

Christian:
Christian also spent a lot of time on the couch watching TV and playing video games. He went on the summer backpacking trip, went to Farmington/Durango while Ellie was here and swam with the Tempe Y swim team.
