Happy 12th Birthday Hannah

Hannah turned 12 on Thursday, the 30th of May.  We didn't do much to celebrate (that came later) but we did have her favorite dinner, Fondue, and her favorite cake, devil's food with heath bar.

We finally had time to have dinner at Spinato's the following night to celebrate all the May birthdays.

It wasn't until late June that we finally made it to Sun Splash. That is what Hannah wanted to do instead of a party.  She took her friend, Marley.

Hannah is still excelling in her role as middle child and as the only girl.  She can often be found in her room doing art projects or tormenting her brothers in whichever room they are in.  We prefer her in her room doing art.  She also loves to be on her (formerly my) iPod taking silly picture on Snap Chat, iMessaging her friends or Lily, among other things.  She is currently 4 ft 9 inches and 82 pounds.

Hannah

Hannah has been a very busy girl this school year.  She also joined the Honors Team and went on the trip to San Diego.

She participated in the Cavalcade of Music. (sorry no picture)

She joined the after school Aerial Club and played the role of the Unicorn in their production of Curiouser and Curiouser.

She continued to take dance lessons at Dance 101.  She took a contemporary class this year.  This year's Recital was themed "Every Time I Dance."

Cameron

If sports did not keep him busy enough, Cameron was also on the Honors Team for the third year.  For their trip this year, they went to San Diego.  They went out on a boat to look at creatures pulled from the ocean.  They also went to the San Diego Zoo and the Natural History Museum.

He continued to play the flute.  This year the band got to go to Disneyland.  He also made the District Honors Band.  He went in early once a week and learned to play the drum-set.  When he didn't have other things going on, he also practiced/played with the jam band.

At the 8th grade award ceremony, Cameron received the Outstanding Science Student award.  He was also recognized for maintaining a 3.5 GPA throughout middle school.  However, it should be noted that he maintained above a 4.0 GPA for all of middle school.  He thinks he should be paid for grades. Chuck and I think differently.  But we are proud of him!

Cameron - Juniors Little League

Cameron's season with the Junior Little League team was very similar to Christian's.  Cameron was one of the best players on his team, the Banditos, but the team was the worst in the league, ending the season with only one win and one tie, the rest losses.  However, unlike Christian, Cameron got very discouraged with loss after loss.  But he did always put forth his best effort and played exceptionally well.  He spent most of the time as catcher, which by far was the hardest, most worked position on the field.  The team really lacked in pitching, so much so that Cameron had to pitch on occasion.  He is not a bad pitcher, just not a good one.  But he really excelled as catcher.  He threw out runners stealing second, tagged runners out at home, blocked many bad pitches and chased dozens of wild pitches.  He also had a good hitting season.  The highlight of the season was definitely when they got to play at the Spring Training field for the Los Angeles Angels.

Christian - number 58

Christian played AAA ball for Tempe South Little League this Spring.  He was placed on a team with many kids from his school, one of whom was his good friend Mavrick.  Their team name was the Tornado Stingers.  Christian was one of the best players on the team but he could not help the team from being the worst in the league.  But losing game after game didn't get Christian down.  He was always ready to play hard and do his best.  He plays all positions well, although he doesn't have a favorite.  He is looking forward to playing more baseball this summer and in the fall.

An Arizona Evening with Royalty

Happy 14th Birthday Cameron

Cameron's birthday was on a Thursday this year, so as in years past, he played hooky.  He watched a movie while I taught and then we went to lunch at Cane's.  He didn't want to go shopping and we didn't have time to do much else, so he spent the afternoon playing video games.  He had the 8th grade awards ceremony that evening where he was recognized for maintaining above a 3.75 GPA all 3 years of middle school (actually it was above a 4.0) and awarded the outstanding science student award.   We had lasagna for dinner and strawberry shortcake for dessert.  Several weeks later Chuck took him, Christian and Carson to an Arizona Rattlers game.  They had dinner, also at Cane's.

On Cameron's wish list was $300 catchers gear. which he did not get.  But the morning of his birthday Christian pulled me into his room and said he wanted to get Cameron something.  He asked if I would buy the catchers gear and say it was from him.  I said no. That did not make him happy.  I suggested he buy Cameron Otter Pops.  He did not like that suggestion.  But ultimately it was what he settled on.  As I was in the kitchen fixing lunches with knife in hand, I had an idea.  Still holding the knife I told Christian I had another idea and to come with me in the other room.  As we were walking down the hall, he said, "Are you taking me to the other room to kill me?"  Hannah gave Cameron a succulent.  Cameron named him Stewie and is taking very good care of him.  He has wanted a succulent ever since Hannah got one at Christmas time.

Other than getting taller, measuring 5 ft 5 (he is taller than I am) and gaining a little weight, weighing 125 lbs, Cameron hasn't changed much over the last year.  He loves to watch TV, play video games (he is now playing the Xbox more than the PS), go to practice and fiddle with things.  He still hates school, hates to read, and hates to do chores.  He is a smart, talented boy with a mature sense of humor. One day I know he will appreciate what school has done for him and be a very successful professional who works hard.
