We started our Christmas preparations by buying our live Christmas tree. We didn't have a time when we could all go together, so I took the kids one day after school without Chuck. We never had a big enough chunk of time to get the tree decorated as a family, so once we got the tree in the house, the boys helped put the lights on and little by little we put the decorations on.
We decorated graham cracker houses with the Hatches and Hamblins. It was the first year without Kristin and her absence is certainly noticeable when we get together in these settings.
We took a trip to Gilbert to donate at the Giving Machine. After waiting in line for 45 minutes, we donated 2 chickens, jump ropes, soccer balls and school shoes. We also donated water.
We attended church on Sunday and had dinner with Camera, Melody, Emily, Rylee and Raygan. And as usual, my pictures didn't turn out very well.

On Christmas Eve we had dinner at the neighborhood potluck and read the Christmas story before bed. On Christmas morning we got up, opened presents and had a hearty breakfast. Chuck and I went for a run in perfect weather (shorts and t-shirts). Camera and Melody came over for dinner. Per the kids request, we had potato soup and bread. We don't have many traditions but they did include watching Elf and Rudolf. This year, although they got plenty, the kids seemed to have gotten a little less. And that is preferred by me. Of course it is fun and exciting to give and receive and the kids were very thoughtful in their gifts but we of course recognize that we are celebrating the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ and there is no better, more perfect gift than what we have already been given.
