Happy 15th Birthday Hannah!

Hannah's birthday was on a Monday this year.  She started her day with French toast from Kneaders.  We had dinner at Pita Jungle and Ice Cream at Baskin Robbins.  We had family dinner the following Sunday.  She requested Mac & Cheese and devil's food cake that is made with Heath Bars, Cool Whip and sweetened condensed milk. It has been her birthday cake of choice for several years now.  Chuck and Christian had gone backpacking so we put some cake aside for Chuck and Hannah to have together.

Hannah is so smart, beautiful and talented, although she doesn't want to admit it.  She is a goal setter and a hard worker.  She continues to enjoy painting and she LOVES ceramics.  She recently learned to crochet and has started making a blanket.  She has also started to enjoy working out.  After track season, she continued to run and has added road cycling to her workouts.  She also goes to my Group Power class (weight lifting) anytime she can.  She likes to try new recipes and she LOVES to shop. She shops mostly online and has discovered what a pain it is to return something when it doesn't fit.  She likes to watch home improvement shows and cooking reels. She still plays the piano and does not have to be told to practice.  She does have to be told to put sunscreen on.  At 15, Hannah is 5'2'' and 115 lbs.

For her presents this year, she got a pair of Van shoes and a pink Yeti.

Christian found this selfie on his iPod (she does like to torment him) and it is one of my most favorite pictures ever.

Some of Hannah's very first ceramic pieces.  They got thrown away when we moved.

Corona Prom 2022

Cameron went with his girlfriend, Lizzy to the Corona del Sol High School prom.  Not sure why, but he said nothing about going to the Marcos de Niza prom. And that was fine by me.  One prom is enough.  We bought him a nice suit (and spent more on that than I did on my wedding dress).  He bought the corsage and boutonniere.  Lizzy's parents paid for dinner and they chose to go to Kobe Steakhouse.  Gone are the days of taking pictures in the living room before prom.  They went with several other couples to the prom and we all met at the Chateau de Vie to take pictures before dinner. I saw some pictures of other boys that went to prom and Cameron was definitely better dressed and more handsome (just saying).

Happy 17th Birthday Cameron!

It is always hard to find time to celebrate birthday during this time of year but we make it happen.  For his birthday dinner out, Cameron chose to go to the Habit.  We had birthday dinner with the family on Sunday and no one can remember what we had.  But we do know that we had ice cream cake from Cold Stone with white cake, cake batter ice cream and a butterfinger mix-in.

For his present, Chuck and I paid for a long-snapping camp that was in Chandler.  He got a 100 oz Polar Pop mug from Hannah and a Sip-n-Save from Christian.  The Sip-n-Save was $6 and he could get one Polar Pop a day for a month.  Lizzie also got Cameron a 100 oz mug which made Hannah really mad.  She was upset that he told two people he wanted the same thing.

Well, he made it a year with no car accidents or tickets! At 17 Cameron still continues to be obsessed with football and he still spends a lot of time scrolling football Instagram posts.  He also still loves to watch TV and play video games.  In the Fall, he started dating a friend of Pyper's, Lizzy Cowgur.  Coincidentally, Lizzie's family used to be in our ward and Cameron went to pre-school with her.  Her parents divorced and she moved not too long after that.  She is a great girl.  One day she brought over a Wii and the kids have played a lot of Wii Sports since then.  However, he and Christian can't figure out how to play nicely together.  Cameron doesn't play the piano (the same songs over and over) or whistle as much as he used to but he still likes to fiddle with things.  He is currently spending a lot of his time watching videos on YouTube, many of which are educational believe it or not.  Cameron is a very responsible, trustworthy young man who is very smart (and gets frustrated with stupid people), dedicated and hard-working (when it is something he wants to do).  At age 17, he is 6 feet .5 inches and 160 lbs.  We love Cameron and are so glad he is part of our family.

Spring Sports

Spring means baseball for the boys and this year, it meant track (long distance) for Hannah.

Christian played Little League and had a great coach who is also the dad of his best friend, Aidan.  He tried out for the middle school team and since we had heard that it was very competitive, we did not think he would make it and prepared him for such.  But he did make it and playing on two teams was a lot!  He would practice right after school for an hour and a half and once the season started, he would usually have 2 games a week.  Thankfully the season was short and games were on M/W while Little League games were on T/Th/S.  But there were days he had two practices or a game and a practice.  He also had a great coach for school ball.  He played catcher, for the most part, on both teams and hit really well this season.  Both teams won some and lost some (as it should be).  He enjoyed Little League a little more because it was more fun because there was less pressure. As a bonus, one of the kid's dad on his Little League team was a professional photographer so we got lots of good pics.

The Knights

The Scorpions

Hannah decided to run track this Spring.  She wanted to do a sport and her only other option was tennis.  She had wanted to run cross country in the Fall but the early morning practices did not appeal to her and she ended up loving swim.  The assistant soccer coach was the cross country coach and the long distance track coach and he talked her into running track.  Seeing as how she does not have fast twitch muscle fibers, she gravitated to long distance, which is track is the 800m and the mile.  Each meet she did the mile and the 800m relay.  I watched her race as much as I could, but track meets are very long and you never know when they are going to race.  I love that Hannah is running, but I can't say that I loved track season.  The communication from coaches was horrible (shocking), practices never ended at the same time and they missed a lot of school to do a lot of sitting around.  For her last meet, they were leaving at 6am and she didn't think she would race until about 2.  I made her go to school until lunch and I took her to the meet.  While we were driving, her relay team was calling, asking her if she was almost there, they were about to race.  Even though it was over an hour before she was anticipated to race, she missed it.  We got there just as they were starting the race. Fortunately she wasn't too mad at me and a short time later, she ran the mile and we were able to go home hours before those who had to ride the bus. She made great progress.  Her starting time for the mile was 7:02 and her PR was 6:42.

Cameron was put on the JV baseball team, likely because the Varsity coach does not like multi-sport players and would not give Cameron a real chance.  He also favors certain kids. (Just being honest.) But that was okay, because Cameron really liked the JV coach, as did I, and he got playing time.  He mostly played in the outfield and had some amazing catches.  He also got a couple hits.  Actual hits, where he got on base, not mom hits where he just made contact with that ball.  The team had a pretty good season, winning some and losing some.  Cameron was awarded the Joe Sella award which is THE award given.  It is given to the player who displays dedication, hard work, a positive attitude. An all around great player to have on the team.

Cameron also umpired for Tempe South Little League.  Usually he would be behind the plate, but this night he was needed in the field.  He thinks he is pretty funny.
