Spring means baseball for the boys and this year, it meant track (long distance) for Hannah.
Christian played Little League and had a great coach who is also the dad of his best friend, Aidan. He tried out for the middle school team and since we had heard that it was very competitive, we did not think he would make it and prepared him for such. But he did make it and playing on two teams was a lot! He would practice right after school for an hour and a half and once the season started, he would usually have 2 games a week. Thankfully the season was short and games were on M/W while Little League games were on T/Th/S. But there were days he had two practices or a game and a practice. He also had a great coach for school ball. He played catcher, for the most part, on both teams and hit really well this season. Both teams won some and lost some (as it should be). He enjoyed Little League a little more because it was more fun because there was less pressure. As a bonus, one of the kid's dad on his Little League team was a professional photographer so we got lots of good pics.

Hannah decided to run track this Spring. She wanted to do a sport and her only other option was tennis. She had wanted to run cross country in the Fall but the early morning practices did not appeal to her and she ended up loving swim. The assistant soccer coach was the cross country coach and the long distance track coach and he talked her into running track. Seeing as how she does not have fast twitch muscle fibers, she gravitated to long distance, which is track is the 800m and the mile. Each meet she did the mile and the 800m relay. I watched her race as much as I could, but track meets are very long and you never know when they are going to race. I love that Hannah is running, but I can't say that I loved track season. The communication from coaches was horrible (shocking), practices never ended at the same time and they missed a lot of school to do a lot of sitting around. For her last meet, they were leaving at 6am and she didn't think she would race until about 2. I made her go to school until lunch and I took her to the meet. While we were driving, her relay team was calling, asking her if she was almost there, they were about to race. Even though it was over an hour before she was anticipated to race, she missed it. We got there just as they were starting the race. Fortunately she wasn't too mad at me and a short time later, she ran the mile and we were able to go home hours before those who had to ride the bus. She made great progress. Her starting time for the mile was 7:02 and her PR was 6:42.

Cameron was put on the JV baseball team, likely because the Varsity coach does not like multi-sport players and would not give Cameron a real chance. He also favors certain kids. (Just being honest.) But that was okay, because Cameron really liked the JV coach, as did I, and he got playing time. He mostly played in the outfield and had some amazing catches. He also got a couple hits. Actual hits, where he got on base, not mom hits where he just made contact with that ball. The team had a pretty good season, winning some and losing some. Cameron was awarded the Joe Sella award which is THE award given. It is given to the player who displays dedication, hard work, a positive attitude. An all around great player to have on the team.
Cameron also umpired for Tempe South Little League. Usually he would be behind the plate, but this night he was needed in the field. He thinks he is pretty funny.
